"Thor: Ragnarok" - Enter Cate Blanchett

According to reports, actress Cate Blanchett is circling Marvel Studios' "Thor: Ragnarok", to play a powerful villain, based on a Marvel Comics character, in the new 3D  feature, prepping in Australia January 2016 for a June 2016 start:

'Hela', the 'Asgardian' harbinger of death, debuted in Marvel's "Journey into Mystery" #102...

...based on the Norse goddess, Hel, as the ruler of both 'Hel' and 'Nifleheim'.

She possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility and durability. When wearing her cloak, she is far stronger than the vast majority of her race.

Her vast strength has allowed her to engage in sustained hand-to-hand combat with Thor.

Hela has vast mystical powers which she can use for various effects including limitless astral projection while retaining many of her powers and abilities...

...including firing deadly bolts of energy from her hands, as well as the powers of levitation and illusion creation.

Her most powerful ability is her 'Hand of Glory', a technique that uses mystical energy to enhance the strength of her punch to kill Asgardians.

As a 'Death Goddess', Hela has a pact with Death, allowing her to claim the souls of any Asgardians.
